Knox Spaces #7 (In between)
Approximate grade: RCM ARCT / ASTA 6+ / ABRSM 8+
Atonal. Tranquillo, rubato. Metronome: Quarter note = 50
  • Intonation  »  Quarter tones -- see measure 23:

The study begins by placing C natural and C# between B and D. After trying both positions, the finger is then placed right in the middle, and a C quarter sharp is produced. This piece ends with a light-hearted implied reference to Ligeti's Viola Sonata. (Knox)

Knox Spaces #7 (In between)
Approximate grade: RCM ARCT / ASTA 6+ / ABRSM 8+
Atonal. Tranquillo, rubato. Metronome: Quarter note = 50
  • Intonation  »  Quarter tones  »  Trills -- see measure 51:

The quartertone trills usually require a special way of placing the finger, depending on the size of the finger. Placing the main part of the fingertip on the fingerboard beside the string and just touching the string with the tip of finger is probably most satisfactory. (Knox)
